The Kingston Soap Company is based in Kingston, Ontario. Our company philosophy is to work with nature and the environment to bring you products that you can be confident are natural and have not damaged the space we live in. People are demanding simpler, natural products with less chemicals and fulfilling this need is our key mandate. Two of our soaps contain no more than three ingredients and the remaining soaps only have natural ingredients added to this recipe. Plain and simple!
The idea of making soap came about after a trip to Provence in France. On a warm October morning we ventured into the town of Vaison La Romaine to see their market. We were amazed at the variety of stalls selling everything from fabric to food. We stopped at one stall that sold soap. Not just one or two varieties but dozens of different types were spread out in front of us. Types that we had never seen before such as Herbes de Provence and this was also the first time we had seen soap with natural ingredients actually in the soap. Lavender flowers, Herbs and Spices could be seen dotted throughout the bar. This was the inspiration for our soaps and how we now have over 50 types (and growing...).
We specialize in natural products and are currently working extensively in olive oil based products. The majority of our soaps are very low fragrance (or have none at all). This is due to the fact that we do not add any artificial perfumes to the soap mixture and any scent in the soap is from the natural product added to the soap such as Orange Zest, Cinnamon or even Espresso Coffee or the essential oils that some of our bars contain. The main Olive Oil soap is a low lathering soap, but very beneficial to the skin and leaves the skin soft and glowing. Goat's Milk soap is incredibly moisturizing and has a richer lather.

We have added some new soaps, that use a mix of oils that provide different properties to the soap. For example, we have a bar that uses coconut oil and this provides a bubbly lather to the bar of soap. In addition to our new soaps, we are also adding lotions and are working on many more ideas and creations - many of them requested by our clients. All inspired by nature to relax and rejuvenate not only your skin but also your soul. Did you know . . . all our soaps are made using the cold process method of soapmaking which involves mixing water or goat's milk or tea (or a combination of these) with sodium hydroxide then combining this mixture with pure olive oil. These ingredients chemically react in a process of saponification and the result is a salt called soap! Did you know soap is really a salt!? Ask your friendly chemist and he or she will give you an even more detailed explanation. Anyone that tells you they make soap from scratch without sodium hydroxide is not telling you everything. They're buying a base from a manufacturer who used sodium hydroxide and water and oils to make the base.
